Twelve steel Stream Deck keys: research at 42% with 21 minutes left, 46.1 megawatts used at 100% satisfaction, 27 alerts with three things destroyed, five hours 42 minutes played, the engineer's health, 57 of 190 technologies, 165 science per minute, 2.7 thousand iron plates a minute, 14 trains with nine moving, robots busy, 1.8 million pollution rising, and 43% evolution.
Live from the game, on steel keys with original pixel art. Every number here is from a made-up save.

What you need

  • Factorio 2.0 on Windows. Space Age is optional; the keys follow you between planets.
  • Windows 10 or 11 with Stream Deck software 7.1 or newer. Any Stream Deck works; the Stream Deck + gets dials and touch strip images too.
  • The Stream Deck Bridge mod, which the plugin installs for you (below). It uses no console commands, so achievements stay on.

1. Install the plugin

In testing. Factorio Deck is being played with before it goes to the Elgato Marketplace. This page will link to the listing when it is up. It comes with a ready-made profile for every Stream Deck.

2. Set up the mod and RCON

Drop any Factorio Deck key on the deck, click it, and expand Setup in its settings. Two buttons, both used once, both with Factorio closed:

  1. Install the mod copies the bundled Stream Deck Bridge mod into your mods folder and enables it. It writes a small state file once a second; that is all the information keys need.
  2. Turn on RCON sets local-rcon-socket=127.0.0.1:27015 and a random password in Factorio's config.ini. RCON is the game's own local command port; only the action keys (save, pause, speed, map, look, cheats) use it. Skip it and the information keys still work.

Start Factorio and load a save. The keys come alive within a second.

3. The keys

Every key is in the Factorio Deck category. Leave titles empty; the keys draw their own.

4. Action keys

Eight action keys: Save, Screenshot, Pause, game speed cycling from 4 times, Map view, Look at the newest alert, Technology tree, and Cheats.
The action keys. They talk to the game over its local RCON.
  • Save game saves an autosave with a name you choose, without a dialog.
  • Pause stops and starts the ticks, in multiplayer too, where Esc does not pause.
  • Game speed sets a speed or cycles 1×, 2×, 4×, 8×, ½×.
  • Map view opens remote view over your position, or brings you back to your character.
  • Look at jumps remote view to the newest alert (of one kind if you like), to spawn, or to another player.
  • Technology tree opens the technology screen on the current research.
  • Screenshot saves your view without the interface into script-output/stream-deck.

5. Pages on the deck

Eight page keys: the technology being researched and the next in the queue, two alert kinds with counts and positions, two items made per minute, and two items in logistic storage.
From the research, alerts, production and storage pages.

Research opens a page of the queue, a technology per key. Alerts opens a page with a key per kind; press one to look at that kind's newest alert. Item rate opens the production page, everything made per minute, busiest first, and Logistic storage opens the storage page, largest count first. Each page has Back and paging keys.

6. Stream Deck + dials

Six touch strip images: research with a progress bar and time left, power used of produced, an alert kind, an item made per minute, trains moving, and construction robots busy.
Touch strip images. Turning a dial moves through the queue, alert kinds, items or train states.

On a Stream Deck +, every information key draws a steel card on the touch strip, and its dial moves through what it shows: the research queue, the kinds of alert, the items made per minute, the storage list, players. Pushing the Research dial opens the technology tree; pushing Alerts looks at the newest one.

7. Cheats

Eight keys from the Cheats page: cheat mode, heal, research all, clear pollution, always day, remove enemies, to spawn, and give items.
The Cheats page, only once Enable cheats is on in the mod's map settings. It is off by default.

Off by default. In Factorio, Settings → Mod settings → Map → Enable cheats unlocks the Cheats page: cheat mode (free crafting), heal, research every technology, clear pollution, always day, remove the enemies on your surface, teleport to spawn, give items, run faster. Until then every cheat key says cheats off. Turning cheat mode on disables achievements for that save, like any cheat in the game.

8. What it can and cannot do

  • The mod writes a file on your own computer and registers one console command. It opens no ports.
  • RCON is the game's own feature, bound to 127.0.0.1 by the setup button, so nothing outside your computer can reach it. The password lives in config.ini; the plugin reads it from there.
  • The mod's command is a mod command, not a Lua console command, so using the keys does not turn achievements off. Cheat mode does, because that is what the game does with cheat mode.
  • It does not go online, and the plugin's log never records your save, player names or the RCON password.

Troubleshooting

Six keys: power red at 71% satisfaction, trains with one out of fuel and two with no path, the engineer at 60 health with no free slots, 27 alerts, a key saying game not running, and a key saying turn on RCON.

Frequently asked

Does it work in multiplayer?

Yes. Everyone on the server needs the mod anyway, and each player's client writes its own state file, so the information keys work for everyone with the plugin. Action keys need RCON to the server: fill in the host, port and password under the keys' shared Settings.

Does it work on a portable install?

Set Factorio folder under Settings to the folder that holds mods, config and script-output. The Steam install is found on its own.

Is it made by Wube?

No. Factorio Deck is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Wube Software. Factorio is a trademark of Wube Software. Every icon is original pixel art made for the plugin.

Something is still wrong.

Email support@teatimeservers.ca with what the key says and the lines mentioning stream-deck-bridge in factorio-current.log, and we will take a look.
