A Stream Deck XL showing the No Man's Sky hub: six folder keys for On Foot, Ship, Exocraft, Building, Galactic Map and Photo Mode, then rows of keys such as Visor, Scan, Pulse, Galaxy Map, Inventory and Options.
The Stream Deck XL hub: six folders and 24 everyday keys.

What you need

  • No Man's Sky on Windows, played with keyboard and mouse.
  • A Stream Deck (15 keys), Stream Deck XL or Stream Deck +, with Stream Deck software 7 or newer.

No plugin is needed. The profiles use only Stream Deck's own hotkey, volume and folder actions.

1. Install the profiles

Submitted for approval. The No Man's Sky profiles have been submitted to the Elgato Marketplace and are waiting for review. This page will link to them as soon as they are approved.

Once released, there is one profile for each device. Double-click the file for your Stream Deck and the Stream Deck software adds it to that device.

2. The hub and folders

Two 15-key Stream Decks: the hub with folder keys and everyday keys, and the On Foot folder with a back key, Visor, Scan, Torch, Melee, Reload, Weapon Mode, Alt Weapon, Jetpack, Interact and more.
The 15-key hub, and the On Foot folder it opens.

Each profile opens on the hub. Press a folder for that part of the game, and the arrow at the top left to come back. Keys are colour-coded by folder.

FolderWhat is in it
On FootAnalysis Visor, Scan, Torch, Melee, Reload, Weapon Mode, Alt Weapon, Jetpack, Interact, Survey Mode, Auto Walk
ShipPulse Engine, Land and Exit, Galactic Map, System Map, Scan, Weapon Mode, Previous, Next and Closest Target, Ship Power
ExocraftExit, Place and Delete Checkpoint, Visor, Scan, Weapon Mode, Rise, Sink, Survey Mode
BuildingBuild Menu, Edit and Build, Build Camera, Duplicate, Delete, Recolour, Wiring, Free Placement, Free Axis, Scale, Switch Base, Rotate
Galactic MapExit, Home Base, Waypoint, Current System, System Info, Next System, Scan, Hide UI, Filters, Navigation Mode, Move Up and Down
Photo ModeEffects, Move Sun, Camera Up and Down, Roll, Effect category, menu navigation

On the 15-key Stream Deck, Quick Menu, Inventory, Options and HUD are repeated inside the folders, so you rarely need to go back to the hub. The Stream Deck XL hub holds 24 everyday keys on its own.

3. Stream Deck + dials

Two Stream Deck + devices: the Building folder with Rotate Part and Scale Part dials, and the Galactic Map folder with Map Filter, Nav Mode and Move Down or Up dials.
The dials change with the folder.

4. How the keys work

The six folder keys in a row, above three notes: nothing to rebind, keyboard unchanged, and two optional binds for Rotate Part on Num 4 and Num 6.
Built on the game's own controls.
  • Every key presses the key the game already uses, taken from the game's own View Controls screen. Your keyboard is untouched.
  • Like your keyboard, the keys follow the game's context. C scans on foot and switches between Edit and Build while building; X opens the Quick Menu, and deletes a part while building.
  • Summon Ship, the Terrain Manipulator, the Catalogue and the Journey have no keyboard shortcut in the game, so they open from the Quick Menu.

5. Two optional binds

Rotate Part Left and Rotate Part Right have no key in the game by default. To use the Rotate keys and the Rotate Part dial, bind them in Options, Controls to Num 4 and Num 6. Everything else works without changing a thing.

Troubleshooting

What happensWhat to try
Keys do nothingClick into the game first. Stream Deck sends keys to the window in front
A key does something elseThe game reuses keys by context, or the binding was changed in Options, Controls. Reset that action to its default
Rotate does nothingBind Rotate Part Left and Right to Num 4 and Num 6, see Two optional binds
Punctuation keys are wrongThe profiles are tested with a US English keyboard layout; other layouts can move , . and /
The profile does not appearStream Deck lists a profile under the device it is made for; connect that device and import again

Frequently asked

Can the keys show my ship's speed or shields?

Not yet. No Man's Sky does not share live values with other programs, so these profiles stick to controls.

Why not F13 to F24, or key combinations?

We tried. The game ignores F13 to F24 and binds only single keys, which is why every key uses the game's own defaults instead.

Does it work on a Mac?

Not at the moment. Stream Deck stores Windows key codes in hotkeys, and the profiles have only been tested on Windows.

Is this made by Hello Games?

No. These are unofficial fan-made profiles, not affiliated with or endorsed by Hello Games. No Man's Sky is a trademark of Hello Games. The icons are our own artwork, built from Material Design Icons by Pictogrammers.

Something is still wrong.
