Structure before finishes
Level foundations, proper drainage, square framing. The exciting parts of a house all sit on the boring parts, and we don't rush the boring parts.
Home/About
A carpenter-led construction company working in the townships and along the lakes north of Kingston.
Our approach
Waugh Construction Inc. is a construction company and carpentry shop based in Sydenham, Ontario. We build new custom homes, take on renovations and additions, and cut traditional heavy timber frames.
The order of those three matters less than the fact that one crew does all of them. When the same people pour the footings, frame the walls, raise the timber and hang the trim, nothing gets lost in a handoff — and nobody gets to point at somebody else when a detail doesn't line up.
Around here that means working on rock, on shorelines, and on century buildings that were never quite square to begin with. It also means winter. We plan for all of it.
How we work
Level foundations, proper drainage, square framing. The exciting parts of a house all sit on the boring parts, and we don't rush the boring parts.
Scope written down, allowances called allowances, and changes priced before they happen — not discovered at the end.
Exposed timber gets laid out, cut and dry-fit in the shop. If it's going to be visible for fifty years, it gets made properly once.
Swept, stacked, secured at the end of every day. Your neighbours have to look at it too.
Purpose-built, with 16′ ceilings for maximum usable volume and flexibility — finished with stone elements and a custom timber accent.
That's roughly how we think about every building: get the bones right and generous, then make it something people actually like looking at.
Service area
Based in Sydenham, working mostly within about an hour of the shop — Frontenac County, Kingston, and the lakes in between.
