Pal Deck

What you need

• Palworld on Steam, on Windows.
• Windows 10 or 11 with Stream Deck software 7.1 or newer. There are layouts for the Stream Deck, XL, +, Neo and Mobile; on the + the dials and touch strip join in.
• UE4SS, a free, open-source mod loader for Unreal Engine games (next step).
• The PalDeck mod, which comes with the plugin and is installed from a key's settings.

1. Install UE4SS

Pal Deck's mod runs inside the game through UE4SS, so UE4SS goes in first. The easy way is Palworld's own Steam Workshop:

1. Subscribe to UE4SS Experimental (Palworld) on the Steam Workshop.
2. Start Palworld. On the title screen open Mods, make sure mods are turned on and UE4SS is in the list, then quit the game completely and start it again.
3. Quit Palworld again before the next step: the mod cannot be installed while the game is running.

UE4SS installed by hand into Pal\Binaries\Win64 works too; the plugin finds either.

3. Install the mod

Put any Pal Deck key on your deck, the Pal Deck key is the obvious one, click it, and expand Setup in its settings. It lists what it found: your Palworld folder, UE4SS, the PalDeck mod and whether Palworld has mods switched on. With the game closed, press Install the mod.

That copies the mod into UE4SS's Mods folder and adds one line, PalDeck : 1, to UE4SS's mods.txt, keeping a backup of that file the first time. Nothing else in the game folder is touched. When a plugin update brings a newer mod, Setup says so and the same button updates it.

Start Palworld and load a world. The keys come alive within a second or two.

Installing the mod by hand

The button is the easy way, but the mod is also here on its own, the same version that comes with the plugin:

1. Close Palworld.
2. Unzip it into UE4SS's Mods folder, so you end up with a PalDeck folder beside the other mods. For the Workshop UE4SS that is Palworld\Mods\NativeMods\UE4SS\Mods\PalDeck; for a hand install of UE4SS, Palworld\Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\PalDeck.
3. Open mods.txt in that same Mods folder and add the line PalDeck : 1 above the Keybinds line.
4. Start Palworld and load a world.

Do not add it to Palworld's own Mods list or give it an Info.json: the game's mod manager removes mods it cannot match to a Workshop item. UE4SS loads it from mods.txt, which is all it needs.

4. The Pal Deck key and its layout

You do not import a profile. Put the Pal Deck key on your own profile and press it: the deck switches to a layout made for it, with Back in the corner to return where you were. The layouts live inside the plugin, so they do not clutter your profile list, and there is one for each kind of Stream Deck.

Every key is also in the Pal Deck category of the actions list, so you can build your own page instead and drag in only the keys you want. Leave their titles empty; the keys draw their own.

5. The keys

The game-control keys send Palworld's default keyboard bindings. Palworld has no rebinding menu, so they match every install. Pal and passive skill names come from the game's own text, so they read the way they do in game.

6. Stats pages

Pressing a Party, You, base or Looking At key opens a page of full stats across the whole deck, and Back returns to the layout.

• A Pal's page: name, level, gender, HP, food, sanity, the three talents, condenser stars, souls, trust and up to four passive skills.
• Looking At's page is the same page for the Pal you are aiming at, and it stays live: turn to another Pal and the whole page follows. A Pal that slips behind a rock for a moment is held for a few seconds rather than flickering away.
• Your page: level, HP, food, unused points, and all eighteen stats the game keeps for you.
• A base's page: its counts, then a key per worker, sickest and hungriest first, so the Pal that needs you is always top left. All Bases lists every worker across your bases.

7. Stream Deck + dials

On a Stream Deck +, turn the Party dial through your five Pals, the Base dial through your bases, and the Looking At dial through that Pal's stats, passives and details on the touch strip. Push a dial to open its stats page. The fourth dial is system volume.

8. Settings

Under Settings in any Pal Deck key, shared by every key on every deck:

• When pressed: open a page with all the stats (the default), or step through what the key shows in place, without leaving the page you are on. Dial pushes follow the same choice.
• Palworld folder: found through Steam on its own, in any Steam library. Fill it in only if your Palworld lives somewhere Steam does not know about.

9. What it can and cannot do

• The mod only reads. It changes nothing in the game or your save, and cheats nothing.
• It writes one small file, state.json, in its own folder under UE4SS's Mods, once a second. The plugin reads that file and nothing else from the game.
• Nothing goes online: no account, no login, no ports. The plugin's log records states and counts, never Pal names, your player name or your save.
• It is client side. It works in single player and on multiplayer servers with nothing installed on the server, and it only sees what your own game knows.

Troubleshooting

Palworld switched its mods off

After a crash Palworld turns all mods off on its own, UE4SS included, and every key says mod not running. Setup says so too. On the title screen open Mods, turn mods back on, then quit the game completely and start it again: the setting only takes effect on a fresh start.

It stopped working after a Palworld update

UE4SS is tied to the game's version, and a Palworld patch can break it until UE4SS catches up. When UE4SS is updated on the Workshop, Steam brings the new version in on its own. Until then the keys say mod not running; nothing is wrong with your deck or your save.

The Install the mod button is greyed out

Either UE4SS was not found (install it first, above) or Palworld is running. Quit the game fully and the button comes back.

Frequently asked

Does it work in multiplayer?

Yes. The mod runs in your own game and reads what your game already knows, so it works on dedicated and co-op servers with nothing installed on the server.

Why is there no max HP bar?

The game does not keep a Pal's maximum HP where the mod can read it reliably, so keys show HP as a number rather than a bar that might lie. The bar you see is food.

Do I need a Palworld mod manager?

No. PalDeck is a UE4SS Lua mod and does not appear in the game's own Mods list, which only shows Workshop packages. That is expected: UE4SS loads it from its mods.txt.

Is it made by Pocketpair?

No. Pal Deck is an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Pocketpair. Palworld is a trademark of Pocketpair, Inc. UE4SS is a separate open-source project. Every glyph on the keys is original artwork; no game art is used.
